At the D23 EXPO 2015, The Walt Disney Company Chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced to an audience of more than 7,500 fans that Star Wars-themed lands will be coming to Disneyland park in Anaheim, California and Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, allowing Star Wars fans to step into the stories from a galaxy far, far away. Ambitious plans to bring Star Wars to life in the two parks include creating Disney’s largest single-themed land expansions ever at 14-acres each, transporting guests to a never-before-seen planet, a remote trading port and one of the last stops before wild space where Star Wars characters and their stories come to life.
Yesterday morning, Disneyland Resort President Michael Colglazier was joined by Mickey Mouse and special guests at Sleeping Beauty Castle to commemorate the Resort’s official 60th anniversary. On this day in 1955, Walt Disney first welcomed guests to “this happy place,” and today we honored that historic day with a special ceremony. The ceremony at Sleeping Beauty Castle also included the tradition of playing the recording of Walt Disney’s July 17, 1955, welcome to the first Disneyland guests. Mickey Mouse and all his friends were in attendance, and Disney Legend and Academy Award-winning composer Richard M. Sherman (“Mary Poppins”) was joined by actress and singer Ashley Brown (star of “Mary Poppins” on Broadway) singing “Feed the Birds” and leading Disneyland park guests in singing “Happy Birthday.” Take a look at the video below. Disney finally announced the returned of one of the most beloved attractions! Disney Parks Blog described the news as "We are excited to return to the big blue world once again when Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage at Disneyland park reopens September 27" - following an extended refurbishment. Quite a bit of work has been done over the course of this year to renew this favorite attraction. Many of the attraction’s scenes, rockwork and coral have been refreshed and repainted; as a result, guests will see a more colorful and vibrant underwater experience than ever before.
It’s a big weekend for Simba – it’s the 20th anniversary of Disney’s “The Lion King.” The film, which debuted in theaters in 1994, tells a coming-of-age tale of the young lion cub and his friends, Nala, Pumbaa and Timon. There are many places you can enjoy Disney’s “The Lion King” at the Walt Disney World Resort, including watching film-inspired segments in “Fantasmic!” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and at Mickey’s PhilharMagic at Magic Kingdom Park and “Festival of the Lion King,” the newly reopened stage show at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. There’s also the Lion King wing of resort rooms at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort. Over at the Disneyland Resort, guests can spot Simba and friends in Mickey’s Soundsational Parade.

Remember that when the Disneyland Monorail opened in 1959, it was intended as a sightseeing experience rather than a mode of transportation. Then in June 1961, the Disneyland Monorail became the transportation link that we know and love today. The track was extended to cover a total of 2.5 miles, linking the Disneyland Hotel to Tomorrowland in Disneyland park. Not only was the track extended, but a new fleet of Mark II monorails was introduced, featuring four cars each, instead of three found on the Mark I. Also, the gold monorail joined the red and blue monorails in the family. With the Mark II, the iconic bubble dome on the top of the front car was enlarged.

With Marvel joining the Disney family in 2009, the Disney character and story base grew even further, and the anticipation for how Marvel comes to life in the parks and resorts continues to energize our guests and cast. That’s why Disney announced earlier today at Hong Kong Disneyland that the very first Disney attraction based on a Marvel character experience will debut in Hong Kong Disneyland. And we are excited to be able to share some of the initial details with you today about this Iron Man Experience. Disney is modifying the Guest Assistance Card Program for Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts.
Disney's modifying the current Guest Assistance Card program, which provides access to attractions for guests with disabilities, so they can continue to serve the guests who truly need it. The new program is designed to provide the special experience guests have come to expect from Disney. This is also expected to enable Disney to help control abuse with the current program that was, unfortunately, widespread and growing at an alarming rate. The new Disability Access Service (DAS) Card will replace the Guest Assistance Card. Guests will be able to request a Disability Access Service Card at Guest Relations, and they will receive a return time for attractions based on the current wait time. With that said, Disney has long recognized and accommodated people with different needs. Guests can visit Guest Relations to discuss their individual situation, and Disney Cast Members will continue to provide assistance that is responsive to their unique circumstances. Meg Crofton, president Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Operations, United States and France, recently shared a letter of reassurance and continuing commitment to organizations representing the autism and disabled communities. We wanted to share her words with our Blog readers, as well. Click here for additional information about the new program. |
