New Details Released on ‘Rivers of Light,’ Sunset Kilimanjaro Safaris at Disney’s Animal Kingdom9/14/2015 New details on “Rivers of Light” were just unveiled, telling guests more about the show that will take place on Discovery River at the park, between Discovery Island and Expedition Everest. The entertainment experience will combine live performers with floating lanterns, water screens and swirling animal imagery. “This is going to be a ceremonial event that will happen on our lake,” said Imagineer Joe Rohde. “It takes the idea of the special nature of the animals that are in this park and turns it into a celebration of the beauty of these animals. It starts simply and humbly, continues to unfold and grow as bigger and more elaborate lanterns appear, and then huge curtains of water and light emerge from the water with animals within them. And ultimately it takes off into the sky.”
New details were also shared on Sunset Kilimanjaro Safaris, a new nighttime adventure that will allow guests to travel through the African savanna amid the orange glow of the setting sun. Guests visiting the attraction after dark will also discover two species on the savanna: African wild dogs and hyenas.

Celebrate the Grandest Tales and Tastes of Africa During Harambe Nights at Disney’s Animal Kingdom5/4/2014 by Shawn Slater, Communications Manager, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Creative Entertainment Where were you when “The Lion King” came out in 1994? I was a tour guide at The Magic of Disney Animation at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, where several sequences featuring young Simba had been animated. It’s hard to believe, but this summer marks the 20th anniversary of that now-classic film. In honor of the epic tale of “The Lion King,” Disney’s Animal Kingdom is prepared to stage a special celebration event like no other. All begins with a Welcome Reception in the park’s Harambe Village, including mouth-watering appetizers and African-inspired wine and beer. Then it’s time for the ‘mane’ event! Take your seat inside the newly built Harambe Theatre for an unforgettable performance of “The Lion King – Concert in the Wild.” This all-new, never-before-seen theatrical experience features a live orchestra and choir, dancers, digitally projected movie moments, and dramatic lighting and scenic elements – all hosted by a celebrity guest narrator. The show brings to life the humor, heart, and stirring emotional power of Simba’s journey to find his place as the Lion King.
Disney's Fourth of July celebration officially kicks off at the Walt Disney World Resort on Monday, July 1, with nightly performances of “Disney’s Celebrate America! A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky.” This year’s celebration will be made even more exciting by being the first Fourth of July that guests can watch the fireworks burst above three different Disney castles, thanks to the addition of the attractions in New Fantasyland. Check out the photo above of Beast’s Castle, Cinderella Castle and Prince Eric’s Castle. Looks pretty amazing, doesn’t it?
Will you head to a Disney Park this Fourth of July week? If so, tell us in the “Comments” section below. The countdown has begun for the 13: Reflections of Evil trading event taking place September 13 – 15, 2013, in World ShowPlace at Epcot. Disney has set the bar up high with what they call " the biggest pin trading event ever. In a far away land there lived a wicked and vain Queen who wanted more power. While pouring over ancient spell books, she discovered an incantation that, when performed on the darkest of days – Friday the 13th – could bring together thirteen of the most evil Disney villains known only as “The 13.” To cast this spell, the Queen must use a powerful, supernatural object – a magic mirror – to transport “The 13” from across time to the present day. As luck would have it, Friday the 13th will take place in September this year! The Queen decided this would be the perfect day to cast the spell. Let’s fast forward to September. As the newly assembled Villains are hashing out their nefarious plans, the Villains intentionally break the mirror and hide the thirteen shards. Now the mirror can never be used against them, as it is the only object that can send them home. Lucky for us, an imaginative purple dragon named Figment overheard their plotting and asks Mickey Mouse for help. Along with five of their trusted friends known as the “Lucky 7,” Mickey Mouse and Figment devise a plan to stop “The 13.” They must reassemble the broken shards to send the villains back to their rightful places in time. Now that you know what battle lies ahead, here is a sneak peek at some of the merchandise that helps tell the story. Pin Trading Merchandiser Jeanne Lewis and Disney Design Group Senior Character Artist Michael Sullivan talks about their favorite pins being created for this event. “The mirror set is definitely one of my favorites” said Jeanne. “I love that it shows each villain with their alter ego. The detail that has been put into the sculpted metal characters, combined with the translucent fill overlay, makes it look wickedly beautiful. Michael’s favorite items fall along the line of a particular storybook (not revealed yet). Michael said to look closely at the jumbo pins for some hidden treats. You will find that the number “13” has been incorporated into the words “Beware!” and the number “7” can be found in the word “Believe.” Here is a sneak peek at some Vinylmation items, including Maleficent and a special two-pack Madame Mim set. Tickets for this event will go on sale via DisneyParksMerchandise.com beginning May 8 at 1:00 p.m. (Eastern).
By Tom M. Parker Today, April 22nd, 2013 its Disney's Animal Kingdom 15th Birthday! The fourth park built at the resort, it opened on April 22, 1998, and it is the largest single Disney theme park in the world, covering more than 500 acres (202 ha). It is also the first Disney theme park to be themed entirely around Animal conservation, a philosophy once pioneered by Walt Disney himself. The park consists of seven themed areas, with all but one connected to Discovery Island, which contains The Tree of Life, a sculpted 14-story (145-foot-tall [44 m]), 50-foot-wide (15 m) artificial tree that serves as the centerpiece and icon of Disney's Animal Kingdom. A new area based on the 2009 film Avatar and its planned sequels is set to begin construction this year. In 2010, the park hosted approximately 9.7 million guests, ranking it the fourth-most visited amusement park in the United States and seventh-most visited in the world. Construction started on 1995 with ground removal and site cleaning, after that the Theme Park layout started construction and finally on 1998 the park was ready for opening day. An elaborate grand-opening ceremony was attended by a crowd of 2,000, with primatologist Jane Goodall, Ph.D., playing a special role in the festivities. Then-CEO Michael Eisner introduced the theme park to the world, calling it “a kingdom we enter to share in the wonder, gaze at the beauty, thrill at the drama and learn.” Although the park opened in 1998, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park actually has a lot of ties to Walt Disney, and the passion and respect he displayed for animals and nature throughout his life. Growing up on a farm in Marceline, Mo., the subject of some of Walt’s earliest sketches were local animals. Later on in his career, Walt cast many animals in important roles in his animated films, and took a more serious look at life in the animal kingdom in his “True-Life Adventure Series” documentaries, which were considered to be groundbreaking at the time of their release. By Dallas Thompson. Last week, Disney announced all of the details about how they are going to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of Animal Kingdom. There will be a whole bunch of festive activities to celebrate. Hopefully, this event will be as impressive as the Epcot and Magic Kingdom Anniversary events that have happened in the year past.
Here is a full list of activities that will take place: - At 8:40, there will be a special opening ceremony in front of the Tree of Life. Special Guests will include Josh D’Amaro and Dr. Jackie Ogden. Disney reccomends that guests arrive early as this will probably be really popular. - From 9:00am to 5:00pm, some Interactive Activites will be taking place. These will also be celebrating Earth Day! - Artists will present their work, there will be special 15th Anniversary T-Shirts and Pins, and Food and Drinks. - Rumor also suggests that Yeti will start working again This will all take place on April 22nd, 2013 which is also known as Earth Day. I look forward to seeing all of the coverage from this event. Here is a look at some new items with this year’s logo coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios on May 17, 2013! The logo is featured on numerous items including a Disney pin, a coffee mug, a photo frame and more. Disney Design Group also created a unique Star Wars Weekends “title crawl” image for merchandise, which reflects on the opening title sequences from the Star Wars motion pictures. Disney is trying a few new things this year, like an oversized calendar with 13 previous Star Wars Weekends posters. Each poster measures 12-inches by 18-inches, and can be removed from the calendar for framing. They are also introducing a deluxe autograph and photograph book. The popular Star Tours nametags using Aurebesh will be returning. This year, a new black name tag will appear for Annual Passholders only! The New toys look amazing! Jedi Mickey’s Starfighter is a great example of that! Disney will also have new Muppets action figures and new die-cast cars of Disney•Pixar “Cars” characters portraying Star Wars characters. Finally, we will have new Vinylmation at this year’s event including a limited release mystery series; a Vinylmation, Jr. series with droids; and two limited edition figures – a removable, 3-inch figure of Han Solo in Carbonite, and a 9-inch Jabba the Hutt figure with a 1.5-inch Salacious B. Crumb figure.
