This series will be about famous theme parks history and past, which we all discover through this posts. Now, let's Discover Universal's Orlando Past! Before CityWalk and Islands Of Adventures, Universal Studios Florida was the only park on the area, the archway was the entrance to the park, so you parked your vehicle in front of it. The original concept was to double the size of the Universal Studios on California, with new attractions and shows, The second home to the studios. Universal Studios Florida started construction on 1989, where the all vacant land was transformed into the new Studios site. Notice how in the picture below, the water lagoons and grass was still surrounding the construction site, which now is all buildings and streets. After almost ten amazing years of entertaining guests, Universal decided it was time to expand and become a whole new thing, a complete Family Resort. On the picture below you can notice the amount of land that was involved on this new project, which doubled and almost tripled the size of Universal Studios Florida. Around 1997 (When this picture was taken) the whole concept of the resort started flowing, with the new parking structure, the new archway for the Universal Studios Park and the beginning of the Islands of Adventure park. The Parking Garage Complex construction The entrance changed a lot on looks but not on aspect, the globe and arch are still there but on a different look and location, on the picture below you can notice how different the globe looked (similar to the one at Hollywood, which is still that way) On the picture up and below you can notice the Nickelodeon Studios, building which is now the Blue Man Group Theater. This attraction was part of Universal Studios Florida, its entrance was where Rip Ride Rockit is now on. Nickelodeon used to taped some of its famous shows here in Florida, and as an attraction they had guests enter and see how some of the shows were filmed. Some of the most famous shows recorded here were: Double Dare, Nickelodeon GAS, Slime Time, among others. some of the Props used in Nick Studios could be found on the Nickelodeon Store (Now Despicable Me Store). Universal has now removed everything Nickelodeon on this part of the park, Props were all taken to the Archives. Nickelodeon's contract with Universal ended in 2004 and because of low attendance and high costs of production, Nickelodeon Studios closed forever on April 2005. Universal waited a couple of years and with a new color scheme on the exterior and some refurb inside, Sharp Aquos Theater was born and Blue Man Group Shows started to play.
