One of the coolest new spaces on the re-imagined Disney Magic is Marvel’s Avengers Academy, located inside Disney’s Oceaneer Club. When Disney announced the Re-imagination of Disney's Cruise Line "Disney Magic Cruise", one of the most anticipated things were the mix between Disney and Marvel. When young Disney cruisers entered Marvel’s Avengers Academy for the very first time last week, they were in for a surprise of “super hero” proportions … the chance to meet Captain America and virtually train in Iron Man’s suit! These epic adventures are part of the special missions and operations training for super hero “recruits,” a multi-day experience that begins when kids are briefed via video conference by Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury on the need to train new recruits to keep the world safe from evil. After building their own super-suits by constructing masks, capes, chest plates and repulsor rays to reflect their super powers, the super heroes-in-training are surprised by one of their favorite Marvel icons — Captain America himself! Checking in on the training, Captain America teaches the group the “Avengers Assemble” call sign so they can truly step into the role of the Avengers. On Day Two, recruits report for more training of their super-skills, when S.H.I.E.L.D. intercepts an urgent transmission. Super-villain Red Skull has planned another diabolical plot to turn a “certain sea vessel” into a deadly weapon! When recruits realize their own Youth Activities counselors have been put under an evil spell, it becomes clear that it’s up to them to save the planet. Using their own super hero powers and creative reasoning to work together, recruits must find a solution to thwart Red Skull’s evil plans so that they can save the Avengers and prevent the Disney Magic from takeover! For added inspiration to help the recruits in their academy missions, Iron Man’s high-tech suit of armor, Captain America’s shield and Thor’s hammer are on display. They’ll want to closely examine the suit before they get the chance to “Become Iron Man” themselves! Trainees begin this simulated experience, which happens on a video screen display complete with flashing lights and sound effects, by virtually suiting up, piece-by-piece in the armor, and testing their agility in the suit. Next, recruits practice accuracy by blasting targets with the repulsor system. The training simulation concludes with a fast-paced flight test to get kids used to jetting around in the suit—a skill they may find handy in the future! Does your little super hero have what it takes to be the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s newest recruit? Tell us what you think about the brand-new experiences in Marvel’s Avengers Academy in the comments section below. http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2013/10/kids-unleash-their-inner-super-heroes-on-the-re-imagined-disney-magic/

Disnet finally announced that the world of Pandora will be coming to the park in a few years. After the announcement of this project, Disney officials were not on spot of the expansion, without mentioning details or news. The construction was supposed to start on early 2013 but, due to some copyrights actions, the construction process will be completely starting on min 2014. The Disney Parks Blog served as the source to let us all know about the details of this project. From the moment AVATAR was released, people were captivated by the mythical world of Pandora. When we announced that we’d be working with James Cameron and Lightstorm Entertainment to bring this world to life in our parks, we felt certain that this partnership and combination of talent and imagination would produce an experience unlike any other ever created. Staggs mentions "Our combined team has taken huge steps forward in “imagineering” Pandora as a real place for our guests to see, hear and touch. At the first-ever D23 Expo in Japan, we shared an early glimpse of the plans for AVATAR at Disney’s Animal Kingdom park and I wanted to share some of these breathtaking images and a short preview of what’s to come with all of you." As these concept renderings show in epic scale, in the world of AVATAR guests will encounter awe-inspiring floating mountains and wander through a nighttime jungle of bioluminescent plants that are alive with light and sound. Guests will also discover what it feels like to soar into the sky riding a Banshee. And the new AVATAR-inspired land won’t be the only change coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom. As part of the largest expansion in the history of the park, Disney will be adding all-new entertainment experiences, including a new nighttime spectacular where live music, floating lanterns, water screens and swirling animal imagery all combine to bring a show to Discovery River that will delight guests and truly cap off their day at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The park will introduce more nighttime entertainment as well, including live performers on Discovery Island (pictured above) and a new nighttime version of the Kilimanjaro Safaris. As the world of AVATAR becomes real at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the energy and passion shared by Imagineers and the Lightstorm team for this monumental task continues to be remarkable. I can’t wait to see the reactions of guests as they step into a world that until now has only existed on the screen.
The World of AVATAR will be opening on early 2017. Earlier this year, Disney announced Disney Springs, the exciting, multi-year transformation of Downtown Disney. If you’ve visited recently, you know that the expansion has officially begun. While we’ve been getting a lot of questions, one of the most popular topics seems to be parking: Will there be more spots? Where will they be located? And where should guests park in the meantime? Read on, because I’ve got answers … Yes, more parking is coming! The best part: parking will continue to be complimentary. Work recently started on the first of two multi-level parking garages; it is expected to be complete in late 2014 near AMC Theatres and Splitsville Luxury Lanes. A second garage, closer to World of Disney, is set to open in 2016. Additionally, Disney will continue to offer surface parking. Visiting Soon? (I hope so – because right now, you can enjoy over 70 venues filled with ways to delight you day and night!). I’ve got a few tips to help you make the most of your experience:
Want a few more of my favorite secrets? Arrive before 5 p.m.; look for parking at Entrance 5, behind Cirque du Soleil in lots O, P & Q (it’s a lot closer than you think!); and lastly, don’t forget you can always take the complimentary Boat Transportation between the West Side, Pleasure Island and the Marketplace, weather permitting.
I know I’ve just shared a lot of information – check out the map above for more. Now that you know the latest, I hope you’re as excited as I am. I look forward to seeing you out and about at Downtown Disney soon! By Tom M. Parker
With Marvel joining the Disney family in 2009, the Disney character and story base grew even further, and the anticipation for how Marvel comes to life in the parks and resorts continues to energize our guests and cast. That’s why Disney announced earlier today at Hong Kong Disneyland that the very first Disney attraction based on a Marvel character experience will debut in Hong Kong Disneyland. And we are excited to be able to share some of the initial details with you today about this Iron Man Experience. Disney is modifying the Guest Assistance Card Program for Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts.
Disney's modifying the current Guest Assistance Card program, which provides access to attractions for guests with disabilities, so they can continue to serve the guests who truly need it. The new program is designed to provide the special experience guests have come to expect from Disney. This is also expected to enable Disney to help control abuse with the current program that was, unfortunately, widespread and growing at an alarming rate. The new Disability Access Service (DAS) Card will replace the Guest Assistance Card. Guests will be able to request a Disability Access Service Card at Guest Relations, and they will receive a return time for attractions based on the current wait time. With that said, Disney has long recognized and accommodated people with different needs. Guests can visit Guest Relations to discuss their individual situation, and Disney Cast Members will continue to provide assistance that is responsive to their unique circumstances. Meg Crofton, president Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Operations, United States and France, recently shared a letter of reassurance and continuing commitment to organizations representing the autism and disabled communities. We wanted to share her words with our Blog readers, as well. Click here for additional information about the new program. Downtown Disney treasures many things, from stores to restaurants, this place has a lot to offer, but there's one place that has over 50.000 memorabilia items that will make you wonder through it hallways, this place is Planet Hollywood.
