Celebrate the Grandest Tales and Tastes of Africa During Harambe Nights at Disney’s Animal Kingdom5/4/2014 by Shawn Slater, Communications Manager, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Creative Entertainment Where were you when “The Lion King” came out in 1994? I was a tour guide at The Magic of Disney Animation at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, where several sequences featuring young Simba had been animated. It’s hard to believe, but this summer marks the 20th anniversary of that now-classic film. In honor of the epic tale of “The Lion King,” Disney’s Animal Kingdom is prepared to stage a special celebration event like no other. All begins with a Welcome Reception in the park’s Harambe Village, including mouth-watering appetizers and African-inspired wine and beer. Then it’s time for the ‘mane’ event! Take your seat inside the newly built Harambe Theatre for an unforgettable performance of “The Lion King – Concert in the Wild.” This all-new, never-before-seen theatrical experience features a live orchestra and choir, dancers, digitally projected movie moments, and dramatic lighting and scenic elements – all hosted by a celebrity guest narrator. The show brings to life the humor, heart, and stirring emotional power of Simba’s journey to find his place as the Lion King.

Disney California Adventure's spectacular night time water fountain show, "World of Color" will be receiving a new update on the Holiday season.
“World of Color − Winter Dreams,” an all-new holiday version of the popular “World of Color” after-dark spectacular, will debut at Disney California Adventure Park, Friday, Nov. 15, adding even more merriment to the holiday season at the Disneyland Resort. Hosted by Olaf the snowman, from the upcoming Walt Disney Pictures animated feature “Frozen,” the “World of Color − Winter Dreams” show combines new animation with classic winter scenes from such beloved Disney films as “Bambi,” “Fantasia” and “Toy Story.” The show will include new special effects and present some new methods for utilizing the massive “stage” of water, color and light on which “World of Color” is presented. "Illuminations" marked its 25th anniversary on January 25th, 2013 The nighttime show originally debuted at the park January 30, 1988, as a replacement for “Laserphonic Fantasy.” (Check out this blast from the past in the photo above). Over the years, two special versions of the show have been created. “IllumiNations 25” debuted for the 25th anniversary of Walt Disney World Resort in 1996, while “IllumiNations 2000: Reflections of Earth” launched in 1999 in honor of the upcoming millenium celebration. The most current version of the show, which can be seen at the park nightly, is “Illuminations: Reflections of Earth.” What are your favorite memories of the show? We’ve been giving you peeks into the new Fantasy Faire coming to Disneyland park and today, I’m pleased to let you know that this area will officially open for guests on March 12. One of the highlights of Fantasy Faire will be the Royal Theatre, where you’ll be treated to two unique shows relating the tales of “Beauty and the Beast” and “Tangled,” as told by a pair of Renaissance Storytellers, Mr. Smythe and Mr. Jones. Messieurs Smythe and Jones are men of the theatre and lovers of legend and lore. The storytellers present the tale as old as time and the hair-raising tale of Rapunzel, with the assistance of some fellow villagers, all to the musical accompaniment of Sir Samuel of Morocco. Even Belle, Rapunzel and Flynn Rider appear onstage to help tell their own stories. “We’re using our imaginations to create these stories,” said Show Director Chris Utley. “The storytellers will play a variety of roles, filling in as the other characters. They may put on a costume accessory to pretend to be Beast, or Gaston or Mother Gothel. ” “The stories are told in a fast-paced, whimsical kind of way – very fun and theatrical,” said Chris. “It’s kind of a Renaissance vaudeville style, and the two guys are reminiscent of the old comedy duos of Gallagher & Shean, Abbott & Costello and Laurel & Hardy. They tell their stories with a lot of humor and heart.”
The storytellers will take to the stage of the Royal Theatre when Fantasy Faire opens on March 12. Disney's Creative Team has been working hard on a new show for the Fantasyland Theater at Disneyland. This show will be a Spectacular live entertainment experience that will thrill every guest. This Show is called "Mickey and the Magical Map" The wise sorcerer Yen Sid tells of a wondrous map – one unlike any other – with the power to take dreamers to any place imaginable. But when young apprentice Mickey Mouse attempts to paint the map’s one unfinished spot, he stumbles into a fantastic adventure through worlds of music, color and beloved characters, as he discovers the mystery of the map’s magic! “Mickey and the Magical Map” debuts in summer 2013 at Disneyland park. Stay tuned in the coming months for more on the show, as well as additional details about the all-new Fantasy Faire, opening this spring.
