By Jenn Parker Disneyland is once again celebrating an Anniversary, this time its for the 50th year of "It's a Small World" ride. Everything started when Walt Disney himself debuted at the New York's World Fair of 1964. “It’s a small world” was created by WED Enterprises (now Walt Disney Imagineering) as one of the four displays for this 1964 Fair. This attractions were early tests for a bigger project Disney was planning, to include this rides as part of Disneyland. The success of this rides, specially "it's a Small World" were incredible. For the '64 World Fair, Walt Disney called the Sherman Brothers, the songwriter and singer duo and future Disney Legends, to produce and write an amazing song to be the center of this ride. Walt, and the Sherman Brothers wanted to write a song with a message of peace, unity and hope. With this idea, the song became what it is today, one of the most beloved and remembered songs of Disney and all time. Disney liked the song so much that decided to call this new adventure "it's a Small World" Both Walt and his team were incredible shock of the amount of positive reviews the concept and design of the ride got, it was clear that the ride should be built for Disneyland. But the question was, how to develop the same experience but not copying what was already created? The team started working again, creating the same experience, adjusting it to Disneyland Requirements and focusing on the experience. The wonderful colors and facades of the Disneyland Version were artistically designed by Mary Blair, who worked as Art Direct for the ride as well for Disney's animated movies Cinderella and Peter Pan. Disney Leyend Marc Davis was the responsible for the show scenes and the character adaptation. The ride was built in just 11 months, which is a quite fast construction for the level of detail and the show facade inside and outside the ride. The Audio-Animatronics were being built while the ride was being constructed. Since opening Day, the ride is now available in California, Florida, Paris, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Shanghai* (*Coming soon!) and has been enjoyed by billions on every corner of the planet. If we could put together all the ride length for the amount of passengers, it would be possible to go around Earth 8 times!
