It has been almost 2 Years since we last saw Amity Harbor. Universal Studios Orlando decided to close for good Jaws: The Ride on January 2nd, 2012 to build "an exciting adventure" which has now been confirmed as the Wizarding World of Harry Potter: London. We were really great fans of this ride, that's why we want to create this article to remember this amazing adventure guided by talented skippers who saved us from being shark bait. RIDE INTERESTING FACTS
RIDE THEME AND SETSThe theme of JAWS: The ride was amazing and quite detailed. The ride was set on Amity Island, the same Island where the horrible white shark attacks occurred on a 4th of July weekend. The boat houses and the docks play a huge role on this ride, give not just a theme but the feeling of an Island. Universal Creative Team did an amazing job creating this ride, working with the mechanical sharks, a very detailed theme and setting the mood of an real Island. A big thank you to AmityBoatTours for their pictures and content. Visit their site at AmityBoatTours.com BEHIND THE SCENESAlthough it sounds bad, JAWS: The Ride was famous for its breakdowns and temporary mechanical repairs. JAWS faced big changes when Petrol Oil Gas (Liquid that fuels the whole ride: Fire explosion, boats, sharks) prices raised up in 2005, the ride went from a regular daily based ride to a eventual seasonal ride. Then after a year or so, prices went down and JAWS was up and running again. Several mechanical changes occurred during JAWS running time, and some guests got the opportunity to see how JAWS: The Ride looked when dry. FINAL DAYSUniversal Orlando Resort officials announced that on January 2nd, 2012 JAWS: The Ride will closed its doors for an "Exciting new adventure" they were developing. At that same time, they started marketing the Final Voyage of Captain Jake's Amity Boat Tour, on January 2nd, 2013 - 9:00pm. Fans of all over the world went on the Final day and enjoyed their Final voyage on the amazing Amity Island, meeting with the scary white shark and escaping before they were turned into "shark bait" as skippers used to say. And the final journey came and JAWS: The ride closed its doors forever. DEMOLITIONUniversal wasted no time in covering the whole path between the San Francisco area of the Park to the Simpsons area. After clearing all shops and stalls, ride vehicles and props, the real demolition crew came, and Bruce (The hanging Shark) was taken away to be relocated near a serving place "Chez Alcatraz" on the San Francisco area of the park. After that, this is what came. JAWS: The Ride was really gone. POST JAWS - WIZARDING WORLD OF HARRY POTTER: LONDONAfter almost a year after the final Voyage of JAWS: The Ride, a very fast and unusual construction started. Since the beggining of this whole subject, expeculation of the second land themed to the Harry Potter film and franchise were full. Universal confirmed the expansion on May 2013, after a year and a half developing its "newest adventure", The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: London was taking over Jaws and Amity land. More information regarding the London/Diagon Alley announcent click here. JAWS: The Ride was for most fans an amazing, creative and really fun ride. We all hope The Wizarding World of Harry Potter creates a major success to the park and some new thrilling adventures to those fans that loved JAWS and hate it see it go. UPDATE (2/01/16)After 2 years of posting this article, it is still one of our most viewed posts. We wanted to add how the former Amity Island/Jaws Area looks right now in 2016. Special Thanks to:
