By Alicia M. Magic Kingdom's Central Plaza or most commonly known as the "Castle Hub" will be getting a complete transformation and expansion. The Central Plaza will receive a second ring, adding more walkways, new viewing space for the Fireworks shows, expanded sitting area for Casey's Corner and The Plaza Restaurants. If we compare the current Castle Hub and the new expansion project, we can see how the idea is to add a second "ring" to the current Hub, while also expanding the current walkways and sitting areas. This will also change the eating areas for the two restaurants at the end of Main Street. Disney Parks Blog Author & Social Media Director, Thomas Smith shared a CGI rendering video that shows the plan of this expansion project. If you look closely at the CGI fly-through video, you’ll notice that the enhancements will include new trees and more landscaping in the Central Plaza area. The sculpted gardens planned for the location are inspired by the lush grounds seen around European castles and chateaus.
Disney also emphasizes that as shown on the expansion of Disney's California Adventure and New Fantasyland, they have a long-standing track record of being able to make enhancements while maintaining the magic of the Disney experience, and they look forward to continuing that tradition with this work. This multi-phase enhancement project has already begun and it’ll be completed in 2015.
