By Jenn Parker Disneyland is once again celebrating an Anniversary, this time its for the 50th year of "It's a Small World" ride. Everything started when Walt Disney himself debuted at the New York's World Fair of 1964. “It’s a small world” was created by WED Enterprises (now Walt Disney Imagineering) as one of the four displays for this 1964 Fair. This attractions were early tests for a bigger project Disney was planning, to include this rides as part of Disneyland. The success of this rides, specially "it's a Small World" were incredible. For the '64 World Fair, Walt Disney called the Sherman Brothers, the songwriter and singer duo and future Disney Legends, to produce and write an amazing song to be the center of this ride. Walt, and the Sherman Brothers wanted to write a song with a message of peace, unity and hope. With this idea, the song became what it is today, one of the most beloved and remembered songs of Disney and all time. Disney liked the song so much that decided to call this new adventure "it's a Small World" Both Walt and his team were incredible shock of the amount of positive reviews the concept and design of the ride got, it was clear that the ride should be built for Disneyland. But the question was, how to develop the same experience but not copying what was already created?

Disney just released a new trailer for Maleficient! Check it out! Remember that when the Disneyland Monorail opened in 1959, it was intended as a sightseeing experience rather than a mode of transportation. Then in June 1961, the Disneyland Monorail became the transportation link that we know and love today. The track was extended to cover a total of 2.5 miles, linking the Disneyland Hotel to Tomorrowland in Disneyland park. Not only was the track extended, but a new fleet of Mark II monorails was introduced, featuring four cars each, instead of three found on the Mark I. Also, the gold monorail joined the red and blue monorails in the family. With the Mark II, the iconic bubble dome on the top of the front car was enlarged.

First Look: ‘Garden of the Twelve Friends’ to Feature Mosaic Murals at Shanghai Disneyland12/9/2013 The progress towards the late 2015 opening of Shanghai Disneyland continues to gain momentum. Earlier this week, Disney announced the first corporate alliance partner for Shanghai Disney Resort: Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), one of the most respected companies in China. The agreement provides for a strong branded presence at the resort for ICBC, including sponsorship of a key component of the Gardens of Imagination, which form the central hub of the new park in the forecourt of the park’s iconic castle. The ICBC -sponsored component, called “Garden of the Twelve Friends,” will celebrate each of the 12 Chinese Zodiac characters. “Since the opening of Disneyland in Anaheim nearly 60 years ago, we have sought to establish strong partnerships with businesses that are well-respected leaders in their industries and the communities in which they operate. We are continuing that legacy with this agreement and we are thrilled that our first major alliance partnership for the Shanghai Disney Resort is with such an esteemed partner as ICBC,” said Tom Staggs, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. “The ‘Garden of the Twelve Friends’ is an excellent example of how we are creating experiences and attractions that are designed with our Chinese guests in mind, and rooted in Disney characters and storytelling,” he added. The “Garden of the Twelve Friends” will be located inside the 11-acre collection of gardens and other attractions which lies at the center of the theme park. In addition to the mosaic tiles, the garden will feature a beautiful grove of peach trees, and provide guests with amazing views of the Enchanted Storybook Castle as well as a stunning backdrop for photo opportunities. We are pleased to share a first look at one of the handmade glass tile mosaic murals that will be found in the “Garden of the Twelve Friends” at Shanghai Disneyland. Each Chinese Zodiac sign will be represented by a Disney or Pixar character. So for example, the Chinese Zodiac for Year of the Rat will be Remy from Ratatouille. The “Garden of the Twelve Friends” can be viewed when gates open at Shanghai Disney Resort at the end of 2015.
Earlier this year, Disney announced Disney Springs, the exciting, multi-year transformation of Downtown Disney. If you’ve visited recently, you know that the expansion has officially begun. While we’ve been getting a lot of questions, one of the most popular topics seems to be parking: Will there be more spots? Where will they be located? And where should guests park in the meantime? Read on, because I’ve got answers … Yes, more parking is coming! The best part: parking will continue to be complimentary. Work recently started on the first of two multi-level parking garages; it is expected to be complete in late 2014 near AMC Theatres and Splitsville Luxury Lanes. A second garage, closer to World of Disney, is set to open in 2016. Additionally, Disney will continue to offer surface parking. Visiting Soon? (I hope so – because right now, you can enjoy over 70 venues filled with ways to delight you day and night!). I’ve got a few tips to help you make the most of your experience:
Want a few more of my favorite secrets? Arrive before 5 p.m.; look for parking at Entrance 5, behind Cirque du Soleil in lots O, P & Q (it’s a lot closer than you think!); and lastly, don’t forget you can always take the complimentary Boat Transportation between the West Side, Pleasure Island and the Marketplace, weather permitting.
I know I’ve just shared a lot of information – check out the map above for more. Now that you know the latest, I hope you’re as excited as I am.
